Commissioned by Science Gallery Bangalore during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, this virtual exhibition was an exploration of contagious diseases across history and around the world, encompassing not only physical ailments but also the transmission of ideas and emotions. With a vast and detailed corpus of projects delving into different aspects of contagion, the exhibition aimed to showcase their interconnectedness, setting the visitor on multiple possible pathways of exploration.

The Living Web The experience begins with an interactive gateway that serves as a conceptual primer for the exhibition. Rather than a standard menu, the interface acts as a web of linkages. We designed the navigation to encourage serendipitous discovery; a visitor might start with the history of the 1918 flu and, through a series of thematic connections, find themselves exploring a modern game about social media misinformation.

A Multi-Format Corpus The exhibition serves as a container for diverse media. We seamlessly integrated long-form essays, podcasts, interactive games, and cinematic videos into a singular, cohesive aesthetic. Each project within the exhibition is a node in a larger tapestry, allowing for a deep dive into specific topics without losing sight of the global narrative.

Radical Accessibility True to the mission of public science, the platform was engineered for universal access. This required a sophisticated, lightweight technology stack and a robust CMS to ensure videos and images work on any device, from high-end desktops to low-bandwidth smartphones. The website was also bilingual (English and Kannada) and developed with “a mobile-first design” philosophy, ensuring access to a larger audience.
