Virasat-e-Khalsa
A narrative museum on the history of the Sikhs
Locally referred to as the ‘Ajooba’ (spectacle), 'Virasat-e-Khalsa' is without doubt an architectural wonder in the spiritual town of Anandpur Sahib. The building draws inspiration from the rich heritage of Anandpur Sahib: its hills, natural valleys and streams, the Anandgarh Fort, and the Gurdwara Sri Keshgarh Sahib.
The museum, conceived as a historical, storytelling exhibition, is arguably the first of its kind. The poignant story of Sikh history is represented through installations, theatrical elements, and show based experiences that are emotional, passionate and deeply spiritual, making this experience more than a regular museum visit. Like nothing that precedes it, this museum moves away from traditional displays of artifacts and information. The narrative emerges through a unique blend of traditional arts and crafts coupled with state-of-the-art technology. These techniques create a relevance to the time and place depicted in the narrative environment.
